In the spring of 1970 three brothers were raised in due and ancient form by the Masonic Kilties of New Jersey. This was a most impressive degree with all the participants dressed in the traditional kilts. Bro. Hugh V. MacDonald, S.W. , also attired in colorful kilts, occupied the East until the Kilties assumed the various places and stations to perform their traditional degree work. A highlight of the year was the appointment by Most Worshipful Edward Rainey, Grand Master of Masons of the State of New Jersey, of W. Bro. Thomas O. Lester as Right Worshipful Grand Chaplain. Fidelity Lodge was further honored by the appointment of our Senior Past Master, W. Bro. David E. Roman, to the Grand Lodge Committee on Constitutions and By-laws. On May 3rd, the newly installed Grand Master, Most Worshipful Edward Rainey, held his church service at the First Presbyterian Church in Ridgewood. The officers of Fidelity Lodge were happy to be asked to be of assistance in this inspired service which was attended by some 400 Masons. Most of the Grand Staff attended this service as their first official function. Most Worshipful Reverend Loral W. Pancake, P.G.M, delivered the message. The service was under the direction of Bro. Charles Platt, minister of the First Presbyterian Church and Honorary Chaplain of Fidelity Lodge. On July 4th, W. Bro. Kerner invited the Most Worshipful Grand Master and his staff to participate in Ridgewood's annual parade. As a token of support for the Grand Master, the other Lodges in the area were also invited along with the Royal Arch Chapters, the Councils, the Knights Templar and the Shrine. In all over 600 Masons participated and presented a united Masonic front. On October 9th, Right Worshipful Cornelius Breen, District Deputy Grand Master of the Second Masonic District, presented the first 60 year wreath in Fidelity Lodge to Bro. Howard Hamilton, who was raised in 1909. On January 22, 1971, Fidelity Lodge celebrated its 100th Anniversary and held a reception for Right Worshipful Grand Chaplain Thomas O. Lester which was attended by the Most Worshipful Grand Master Edward Rainey and his staff. The evening started with a dinner held at the First Presbyterian Church which was attended by over 175 Masons. After a brief welcome by the Master, W. Bro. Hugh V. MacDonald Sr., dinner was served. After dinner the members and guests returned to the Lodge for the Reception and Centennial Celebration. W. Bro. MacDonald formally welcomed the Grand Master and Rt. W. Bro. Lester and then entered into the program of the evening. |
